joanna posted this darling video of 9 month old charles playing in the living room of his home for 4 hours {the video is sped up to a little over 2 minutes}.  i LOVE it.

why don't you sit right down and stay a while?

thank you to everyone for such a positive response to my etsy shop! you have made me so excited and your encouragement and kind words mean a lot to me. {the shop is almost ready!}

have you seen the movie lars and the real girl? husband and i watched it the other night. i'd forgotten how much i love that movie. i especially enjoy kelli garners quirky and awkward take on her character margo in the film. i just love the way she rolls up onto her tip toes to say "hello lars" in the beginning... it is simply darling.

i filmed carolyn dancing in the street in soho yesterday for a little project we are doing. wait until you see the footage. she looks just beautiful.

and it is my handsome husband's birthday tomorrow. i love him.  last saturday as we were riding the subway together, i watched him help out a homeless man who was singing for money on the train by singing a blues duet with him. it was beautiful and i fell in love with him a little bit more {if that is even possible.}

and i am dying for summer to begin. our apartment is freezing and i have a cold. i cannot wait for a trip to the beach or a picnic in the park or a nap on a hammock with my love. mmm.

because a girl can never have too many headbands.

i am obsessed with across the forehead headbands and since quite a few of you commented or emailed asking about my handmade headbands (thank you!), i've decided to open up a little etsy shop just for a few weeks to sell some of the ones i've made.

the online shop isn't open just yet, but here is a little preview of what you will find there later this week {or possibly before then, i'm sort of really excited about this}:

{sorry for the lack of quality in these photos ---and lack of model.
i'll have better detailed photos up in the shop...
and hopefully will have found a better model by then too.}

crif dogs afternoon date.

husband and i tried out crif dogs saturday while in the east village. basically, it's a hot dog place that deep fries all their hot dogs {wrapped in bacon}. they also have crazy ideas of toppings like fried eggs, avocado, BLT style or philly cheese-steak hot dogs. husband tried a fried egg on his... i wasn't as adventurous and just had mine wrapped in bacon with pickles. you probably shouldn't diss it until you try it because it was delicious.

devotchka.... we love you.

Monday, January 26, 2009

we've been in love with the sound of devotchka forever.
but saturday night took our love to a whole new level.
yes, we arrived extra early to be first in line.
yes, we stood front center, leaning on the stage
looking up at the band like a bunch of crazies.
and yes, that was my husband who caught the cork
to nick urata's wine bottle {silly husband.}

go have a listen.
they are heading west on tour, so try to see them live.
it is an experience you don't want to miss.

{we also took a gazillion videos so i'll have to post those later.}

the doughnut plant.

Sunday, January 25, 2009

on saturday we met up with friends in the east village
to try out the doughnut plant which everyone keeps raving about.

and... we loved it.
{especially the creme brulee and valrhona chocolate}

so we will be going back. preferably once a week from here on out.

have you seen this? i don't think it gets any better.

i will forever love beirut. (and i doubt i will ever grow sick of them.)
beautiful.

the boo boo's.

i found this old photo of my little twin sisters today and died! i had forgotten just how adorable they were when they were babies. i cannot believe they will be 18 years old in march! they are rockstars and i am so proud of them. i love you, boo boo's!

love. love. love.

_________

and what did you think of the inauguration today?
i maybe got goosebumps.
{and despite what everyone is saying,
i thought aretha franklin's hat with the bow was sweet!}

it made me miss my grandpa barica.

husband and i were wandering around the lower east side
yesterday afternoon in a snow storm and happened upon katz .

i can honestly tell you, best sandwich of my life. seriously.

{and i've eaten a gazillion corned beef meals and sandwiches
in my 22 years of life from the poppywich-barica side of my family...
so trust me.}

you must go.

...and mom, i'll take you here next time we're in the city together.
you will love it.

curse your little heart out, take 1.

...and we are in love.

sushiroll and sweetiepie...

Sunday, January 18, 2009

having sushi at union square's haru with friends ended up being the perfect opportunity for me to work on one of my new years resolutions...
learning how to use chopsticks.

and if you haven't tried dessert at sweetiepie in the west village yet, you should. it's darling {and you can dine inside a bird cage!}

we love our friends
and we love new york {even the freezing cold weather part of it...}

*and thank you shill for my beautiful necklace! so sweet of you...
can't wait to wear more of your creations later this week!

if anything, she has the coolest name i've ever heard.

so... pipilotti rist's latest installation at the MoMA really didn't do it for me. i had heard {and later read a review} that it was more focused on femininity, especially since many view the MoMA as man heavy in art and exhibits. but i didn't see that at all. maybe i just didn't understand the way she was trying to incorporate that with the whole fantasy and reality thing. or maybe i was just not feeling it yesterday when i saw it.

but...
the way they transformed the atrium at the MoMA was incredible. i think the architecture of the museum is what really made pipilotti's concept come to life and bring everything together as an experience.

but i don't know, go see it for yourself.
and read more about the commissioned installation here

yesterday we played with color.

i want to play hide and seek inside the MoMA.

...no really.

{can you find me?}

i'm just happy. you know, so very happy.

last night i made up a recipe as i cooked dinner {meaning i tried to incorporate what i had in the fridge} and ended up with a homemade seafood-stir fry-pasta-something-dish. it made me fall in love with the snow pea hard core. how i had forgotten to include these to every single dish my entire life i have no idea. but they will most definitely be making more appearances in my kitchen from now on...

we really cannot wait to see them next week. go listen to them right now. husband and i cannot get enough.

i attempted to go on a run this morning...until i stepped outside the apartment and experienced a stunning city snow storm first hand. instead, i circled the block once slower than a tortoise catching snowflakes with my tongue out the entire time. it was magical.

i'm giddy right now with all the little projects i get to be a part of for 2009. it's going to be a WONDERFUL year of creativity and learning. in fact, i couldn't sleep last night i was so excited.

and i'm sure you already know what i'm going to say next. but i really just cannot get enough of this man.  i'm thankful for the way he challenges me and makes me want to be a better person every single day. i love him.

i hope you are happy too! have a wonderful beautiful day.
xoxo
