kisses.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

husband went out for italian tonight after work with a friend.
he brought me home some linguine with clams.
but before he gave it to me, he said we had to kiss before i ate the pasta.
not a big fan of garlic, that one.
or so the wife is learning.
sweet of him to still wanna kiss me though.

image via le love.

because we miss jillian and her hot dog theory.

here is the truth:

husband and i have been religiously watching this season's the bachelor.
and we love it. it's almost too bad of a show not to watch.
sometimes we cry from laughing so hard at the crazies
and sometimes we cry because, well...
jill got sent home last week.
whaaaat?

so we had hot dogs last night in her honor.
we're looking forward to the big dramatic finale next monday.

why i love my {job}.

i'm working on a few things with the 5 browns this year and
since they were a big part of zac posen's show for fashion week,
i loved getting to spend a few hours with him and his darling parents
at his studio last week before the big fashion show.

check out his stunning collection here
read and see photos from the show last week here.

he is one talented genius of a designer
and one of the most down to earth people i've met.
(he designed these dresses for the browns.)

i've never walked away from something feeling so inspired.
and i want all of his pieces!

last night around 3AM, husband elbowed me in the mouth while we were sleeping...

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

and almost 24 hours later my mouth is just now reaching its full capacity of soreness.
oh, and my gums are purple and blue.
it's a good thing i love this man.
{josh, please remember this next time i ask you for a puppy.}

photo of us by johnny monahan from wayyy back in the day...
before marriage, bangs, our little blog or the recent developments in wanting a puppy.

why yes... i do love jell-o salad, got married 2 days after my 21st birthday and am maybe guilty of using the phrase "oh my heck" once upon a time.

so... i'm mormon (but i think you already knew that).

i did a phone interview the other week with a journalist from religion dispatches who was working on an article about the explosion of mormon blogs. it's online now and i think it's an interesting read, so check it out

some of my favorite bloggers are also there, (a little sussy, mormon in manhattan, cjane enjoy it and the nie nie dialogues)... so if for no other reason, go read it just to hear what these other lovely ladies had to say about being mormon and blogging.

p.s. i love josh.

do you ever have dance parties in your kitchen?

Monday, February 23, 2009

we do.
personally, i think that's what kitchens are made for.
and, ever noticed how many pirouettes you can do on a tile floor?
it's amazing.

have a lovely weekend!

Saturday, February 21, 2009

we're making homemade treats
and unwinding from a busy busy week.
see you monday!

update.

Friday, February 20, 2009

the shake shack put onions on my burger tonight.
how dare they.

husband is away at scout camp.
i probably won't sleep tonight.

carolyn is one of the most awkward people i know.
maybe that is why we're best friends.

i've decided i still don't know what i want to be when i grow up.
but this whole stylist thing in the meantime is sure a lot of fun.

Time Out NY {oh and I love Martha}.

Thursday, February 19, 2009

A writer from Time Out NY Magazine contacted me a few weeks ago and asked how Martha Stewart has inspired me in my life. Well, the article came out today. You can read my silly little entry and see the photos online here

P.S. Jason Rodgers, the photographer for Time Out NY was awesome. Check out his website, he does great work.

i think we finally found it...

let the hunt for the best nyc burger be over,
and come celebrate with us at blt burger.

seriously, we think it's the best we've had in
all our long years living in nyc
{well, so far at least}.

coming in at a close second, corner bistro.
also, we don't mind the shake shack, the burger joint or brgr.
however, we're not recommending fanelli cafe or jackson hole.

also- we still haven't had a bad burger at mcdonalds.
just sayin'.

happy birthday to my little brother isaac!

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

i don't know if it's because he's grown up in a house with 4 older sisters + mom (that's a lot of hormones) or if he was just born this way, but you'll never meet a more loving and kind, caring and considerate eleven year old. he is quite the gentleman, always comforting his sisters and making sure we're happy.

true story:
this summer we ran into a mouse situation in our nyc apartment.
{don't you love those?}
i called isaac to tell him about it
{because don't little boys love things like that, or something?}
and shared my frightful tale of seeing a mouse while i was home by myself and running ideas by him of how to get rid of it {he's a little genius too}.
once we ended our phone conversation,  isaac called josh to express his concern about the situation and make sure my husband was doing everything he could to ensure my safety!
i died when i heard! so cute.
{he even told josh, "i know you're allergic to cats, josh... but maybe you should look into renting a cat for just a week or so to catch the mouse because naomi seemed pretty worked up about it and i just want to make sure she is safe out there."}

with that said, happy birthday to the best brother
i could ever ask for!
we love you very much isaac!!

{here is isaac with me last january
at the top of the empire state building.}
p.s. watch this to see how adorable isaac really is.

on valentines day....

i wanted to make husband a homemade card for valentines day, but since i love him so very much, it turned into a book....

Monday, February 16, 2009

...a very very thick book,

...filled with lots of memories, photos and secrets just for my husband.

hope your valentines day was lovely.
xoxo

i liked this.

Sunday, February 15, 2009

eight year old victoria handed me this note in sacrament meeting today at church. i guess she noticed i wasn't wearing any lipstick and it bothered her.

incase you can't fully read it, it says:

"ms. n, can you wear some lipstick. i mean now. please."

this is why i love being in primary
and why i love life.

just so you know, i am yours to keep.

happy valentines day!
photo of us by nicole hill gerulat.

a homemade valentine and little self challenge.

Friday, February 13, 2009

this morning, before the sun was up i made homemade valentines and gave the apartment a little heart attack. (inspiration for heart garlands found here.)

i also wrote out a list of things i can do to be less stressed over the next few weeks since i'm a little wreck about everything going on.

for 30 days beginning today (and hopefully i'll continue after), i am going to be sure i never miss a day of doing these things:

  1. kneel and pray.
  2. vitamins.
  3. at least a half hour of scriptures by myself {isn't it sad that i've gotten into the habit of just a verse or two here and there for my personal study? so lame.}
  4. no nutella.
i'm posting this here because i feel like i'm more prone to doing this if someone has to check in with me or i have to report after 30 days about my progress. so wish me luck.

p.s. the shop is updated too.

happy valentines day and three day weekend!

xo

the hunt for the best nyc burger continues...

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

on our way to catherine's crush party on saturday we ran over to jackson hole on the east side for a quick and cheap burger. well, the 7 oz. burger was most definitely huge, but we thought they were overpriced and not so yummy.

so far, we think the best nyc cupcake is from billy's. and the best nyc milkshake is from  brgr.

but we're still searching for the best nyc burger. if you have any recommendations, do share! we sort of really like a good hamburger.

"i want to go to there."

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

look at these lovely cupcakes i happened upon this morning at kitchenette. i don't know why i didn't buy one. sometimes i am so stupid.

can't wait for my mom's sugar cookies to get here tomorrow sent with love from utah...

tis the week of sugar, you know.

a kiss will make it better...

Monday, February 9, 2009

...and flowers always help too.

as well as doing the laundry and deep cleaning the apartment
with your wife all weekend long.

thank you husband.
i love you.

man on wire.

i don't know how i missed this last year.
if you haven't, go see man on wire today.
{you can watch it instantly if you are a member of netflix}.

this man has so much passion for life.
and what an incredible story.
 watch the trailer here.

crush party 2009.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

last night we went to catherine's annual crush party
to kick off the upcoming week of love.

catherine makes the best chocolate fondue that seriously is better
from cafe mozart.
not kidding.
i probably shouldn't ask for the recipe.

 thanks again catherine!

{p.s. we love orange crush soda.}

the shop...

Friday, February 6, 2009

...is being updated right now.  go see the new editions.

*update: i put two new headbands up this morning (2/9).

xo

marry me.

Thursday, February 5, 2009

i found this here  and am in love. it's absolutely adorable.
directed by michelle lehman, last year's tropfest austrailia winning film.

and maybe when i was little i had the biggest little girl crush on a boy
with a mullet who lived next door named mikey.
 maybe.

tomorrow...

a new batch of headbands go up in the shop. you maybe might find some vintage dresses there over the next few days too...

it's a good thing i love the sound of a harmonica...

...because husband has religiously been practicing every night since his birthday. he's getting really good at ode to joy and when the saints go marching in

and i'm enjoying every minute of it!

when i get down, he lets me get take-out at dragon.

...and we happily order almost everything on the menu and eat it for the next two or three meals.

i lego ny + adore my blogging buddies.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

thank you everyone for the kind notes and emails yesterday {man, what a tough day.}  you certainly do know how to lift my spirits and i really adore each of you.

my husband sent this article to me yesterday from the new york times and it certainly made me laugh out loud. for those of you in nyc or who are familiar with it, you might get a kick out of this too:

see more darling lego photos here.

which one is your favorite? {husband's is the three empty subway seats. mine is of that hideous verizon building pictured in the linked article.}

dear life.

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

sometimes i get very sad. sometimes i have an awful morning.
i try my hardest to stay positive and trust in the Lord but sometimes it gets really hard.
i am currently trying to learn patience and understanding.
i am also trying not to compare or feel resentment or anger.
i'll be honest and tell you it's a constant struggle for me.
especially this past year as my life has progressed but i feel i haven't in the few ways i wanted.

i love my heavenly father so much, and am thankful that he is there.
i am thankful that i can pray and feel comforted and have peace in my heart and know that i matter. i just wish it didn't take me so long to see that each time and that i wasn't such a baby.

and honestly, i wish life was a little easier on me this morning.

but so this post doesn't turn into too big of a downer, this photo is of my little brother isaac taken last year on the brooklyn bridge. it made me smile this morning so i thought i'd share.

one year older and wiser too.

we celebrated husband's birthday last friday.
i made a homemade cookies and cream ice cream cake
(it took forever. but it was delicious. and yes,
he is lactose intolerant but that was all he wanted}
and bought husband a harmonica for his birthday.

he is a wonderful man and i'm so proud of him.
happy birthday again!

wowza.

Monday, February 2, 2009

i just checked TAZA & THE PRINCE and everything is sold!
i cannot believe it.
thank you so much everyone!

for those of you who sent messages requesting a specific headband,
i will do my best to get those made and up in the shop within the next few days.

i'll update you once the shop is up and running again.
thank you again! this means so much to me!
i am off to celebrate with a cup of tea!
xo

let's celebrate with a tea party... the shop is open!

please do stop by and check it out.
and by all means, i'd love to hear your feedback.
i'm new to this etsy thing, so please be patient with me.

and...since a tea party is in order,
the first 10 sales will receive one of my favorite tea bags with a purchase.
{yellow and blue caffeine free chamomile and lavender tea.
by harney and sons fine tea.}

thank you again, everyone!
i love you all.

***while i was trying to learn the ins and outs of etsy late last night, i put up a few headbands in the process for practice. they somehow have already sold, so be sure to check the SOLD items link to see if there is something there you might like. i apologize for this. let me know if you do find something there and i will try to put more up in the shop over the next few days!
