what do you do first once your flight lands in utah?

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

...why, go for a cupcake run!
...and check out all the new little cupcake shops
popping up around utah!

my sister bekah picked me up from the airport
and we decided we needed a cupcake...

we hit up flour girls & dough boys in american fork and....
because we couldn't contain our excitement, we also stopped by
the new sweet tooth fairy bake shop in provo.

i think the key lime cupcake at sweet tooth fairy was my favorite.

oooh it feels mighty good to breathe in such fresh air, see my pretty mountains, and be with the family. i love life very much today.

so hello, utah.

hip hip hooray!

Monday, March 30, 2009

i am off to utah to spend a few days with my family.
cannot wait to see my beautiful sisters and isaac!!

{but not looking forward to the winter wonderland out west.
i will miss you, cherry blossoms.}

photo of me in times square by candice.

we don't live here anymore.

on friday i took some last polaroids around nyc.
i already miss it.  can't wait to visit...

new york city, march 2009.

behold the cherry blossoms.

Sunday, March 29, 2009

on our walk home from church  today,
we took some polaroids of the cherry blossoms
lining our tiny street.

we're living on capitol hill,
a few blocks away from eastern market.
we adore the historic neighborhood
and can't wait to start exploring...

aren't the cherry blossoms gorgeous?

port washington, long island

last wednesday i had a lunch meeting in long island.
i took the LIRR out to port washington.
it made me realize i should have ventured out to long island
more often during all my years living in new york city.
so lovely. and it presented plenty of photo opportunities.
i am so in love with railroads.

and i decided before i die i'd like to have a picnic on a railroad track
during a sunny afternoon in the middle of nowhere.
i think that would be just lovely.
you are more than welcome to join me...
i'd adore the company.

p.s. we love DC!! (surprise, surprise...)
thanks for all the positive energy, love and wishes
sent our way this weekend as we moved!
we love you!

in the wee small hours of the morning.

Saturday, March 28, 2009

it's 4:17 AM and husband and i are STILL awake and packing. we move to our lovely new little city in about 4 hours. wish us luck. we can't wait!

what we'll miss about nyc, part 6

Friday, March 27, 2009

...the people.

so blessed to have made such wonderful friendships,
met such genuine and influential people,
and to have been a part of one of the coolest wards around
(harlem 1st ward).

keep in touch lovely new yorker friends!
we'll miss you.

today...

i witnessed this sweet little old lady
slowly push a watermelon down the street in her cart.

it was amazing.
and oh how i will miss living in harlem.
happy weekend!

what we'll miss about nyc, part 5

...the romantic backdrop nyc created for us as we met, fell in love and got married in our city...
{one of the first photos we ever took together}
  • the first time josh and i ever talked took place over at 65th & columbus.
  • the first outing was at big nick's on 71st.
  • shortly after that there was that time he took me to hammerstein ballroom and talked the security guard into letting us dance on their stage.
  • there was a kiss on the cheek on the escalator at barnes and noble near school.
  • and then the first time i muttered "i like you a lot" inside wendy's on 56th.
  • the long walks holding hands in central park and riverside.
  • that glorious saturday on 5th ave.
  • the "i love you" at 350 west 114th st.
  • the first little argument on the corner of bleecker in soho.
  • the crying from laughter at the spring st. subway station.
  • the moment on the B train around 81st st. that we decided to finally start telling people we were 'dating'.
  • the many nights he met me after late rehearsals at juilliard to take me out for a nice little dinner in the west village.
  • the proposal in a blanket fort in south harlem.
  • the oversized christmas tree carried up 6 flights of stairs on 108th st.
  • and then the wedding day at our nyc temple and first home together in south harlem.

this was the most perfect spot in all the world
for us to meet, fall in love and marry.
there are a million little corners, streets and places here
in new york city that mean everything to us.
we'll miss these special places.

and we can't wait to make new ones in our new city!

my beautiful little film.

Thursday, March 26, 2009

so i made this little film.
i wish the quality wasn't so bad after i uploaded it to youtube.
i'm also not very good at this yet, but i just love creating little things like this.

so have a look.
isn't carolyn beautiful? i can't get over her dancing.
enjoy...

p.s. something else i will surely miss about nyc is the way it has opened my eyes to creativity.
(i mostly have my education from juilliard to thank for this, but i think nyc played a big role.)
i know DC (and where ever else we go over the next few years) will present plenty of opportunities to create or meet exceptionally talented people, but there is something magical about the artistic presence in nyc. it challenged me beyond measure.
 i will miss it.

desperately wishing the agenda for the day included crawling back in bed, making some tea and reading all day.

what we'll miss about nyc, part 4

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

...brooklyn.
the bridge, the vintage shops, the markets, the L train.

but especially the pizza at grimaldi's.

what we'll miss about nyc, part 3

i will miss the primary children of our harlem ward.
i have loved serving in the primary every sunday for my church,
loved teaching these children and spending time with them.
{although i think they taught me more than i taught them}.
they have brought so much love and joy into my life!
i adore them and will miss them like crazy.
on sunday {my last one here} the kids sang to me,
gave me a billy's cupcake {thank you erica
and all these sweet goodbye cards.
i scanned a few to share because they mean the world to me.
bet you can guess what will be hanging all over our new walls in DC!

what we'll miss about nyc, part 2

waiting {and waiting and waiting and waiting} for the subway...

which often made for the perfect dancing opportunity.
although usually it just made for a late arrival.

...do come in.

Monday, March 23, 2009

our little nyc rockstar apartment is still available for sublet for 1 week
March 29th-April 5th

what we'll miss about nyc, part 1

...the food.

we tried out stand burger in union square over the weekend.
(thanks to the many comments and emails telling us we HAD to try
before we decided upon our best nyc burger.)

and...
we must say we maybe spoke prematurely

go to stand. you will be so happy you did.
we loved it. and will most certainly be back.
(and thanks for the recommendation!)

lipstick.

Sunday, March 22, 2009

a lot of people often email or comment me about lipstick.

i am no pro on this stuff but i do believe bright lipstick colors
are so fun to wear and i think anyone can pull them off.
{you just have to be willing to go for it!}

my favorite shades are from Mac Cosmetics
if you're feeling really bold, go get their Ruby Woo.
i also adore their Brick from their viva glam line.

have fun!

do you have any favorite lipstick brands or colors?

my dear mother.

happy birthday to my beautiful mother.
i love you so very much mom! thank you for everything.
i owe it all to you.

*wasn't she the most adorable thing when she was a little girl?
can't get over this photo.

we usually agree on everything.

Friday, March 20, 2009

so i have a gazillion decorating ideas going through my head
for our new place in DC. and while i have NO extra time on my hands
at the moment between work and packing and projects,
i've found myself inside the paint store
more than once this week looking at paint swatches.

we're going for this look in our new kitchen

....but we can't agree on the color...

what do you think?
any thoughts or ideas?

she's a birthday girl.

{birthday festivities taken place at paladar restaurant.
...with a cake from magnolia of course.}

and this isn't a good photo of husband's tie,
but do you see those little owls on it?
yeah... he did good.
he scored that marc jacobs tie 60% off all by himself
AND managed to make it my new favorite thing in this whole world
because of the owls...

i love owls. and i love my husband.

and happy birthday again beautiful carolyn!

happy birthday carolyn!

Thursday, March 19, 2009

my friend carolyn is all over this blog because she is one of my best friends.
so many of you know her well and love her too.
today she is 23 years old (whaaaaat?) and looking more beautiful than ever.

happy birthday my dear!
josh and i love you!

**i still haven't figured out how to upload all my many videos from juilliard, but in the meantime, you should go watch carolyn dancing here and here.  she is one of the most talented dancers i know and you will definitely feel inspired afterwards.

i have pretty friends. it's true.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

meg and natalie are two of my favorite women {and bloggers.}

they'd never met until tonight {but both knew they'd be fast friends if i ever introduced them that they even blogged about it. see here and here.}

i adore both of these ladies so much. they are honest, talented, daring, beautiful, blah blah blah... i could go on all night. i love having inspiring friends.

i'm sure you already know of their lovely blogs, but if you don't, hurry on over...

so thankful for good friends and oh yeah, the hummus place

you know you eat too many hamburgers when....

...someone asks to paint you eating one.

these paintings of husband and me came in the mail today. they are darling.
we can't wait to put them up in our new place!

thank you shauna from little shop of shavs for making them!

twitter.

everyone keeps telling husband and me to get with it.
i just joined but i feel like it's maybe too much for me...

i don't know.

do you have twitter? do you like twitter?
should i delete my account already?

yesterday, for 3.2 seconds i pretended i was mary poppins... and i almost flew away.

more to come.

come be a rockstar.

who wants to come to new york city and sublet our apartment for the month of april?
(or maybe 1 of the 4 weeks in april?)

email me for info:
naomi.megan{at}gmail.com

you know you want to!

happy st. patricks day!

we got lucky and caught a minute of nyc's st. patricks day parade over on 5th avenue this afternoon on the way out of a doctors appointment. it was so sunny and crowded and greeeeeeen.

we liked it.

love.

Monday, March 16, 2009

the perfect evening.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

i can't decide which was better:

1. sitting at the back corner table of jg melons with my love... holding his hand, whispering secrets and recounting our favorite nyc memories together

or

2. enjoying one of the greatest burgers nyc has to offer ...thanks to jg melons

it's a close tie. but i think number 1 wins. how i love this man.

"filet-o-fish." "filet-a-fish."

thanks to my friends, this has been stuck in my head the past few days.

husband and i also die over this one. we've been laughing over both all night.... although we probably won't ever try the sandwich at mcdonalds.

we're still loyal to the chicken nuggets and big mac.

taza & husband have some news...

Saturday, March 14, 2009

it's finally very official!

husband was offered a wonderful new job within jpmorgan
(where he currently works)
...and we took it.

and that means, we're moving.
to washington D.C.
...in 2 weeks.

yes yes.

we are SO excited for this new adventure!
we can't stop jumping up and down!
(this might have something to do with our new lovely living arrangements.
i maybe have the place already decorated in my head. more on that later.)

while we're sad to be leaving NYC, we're ready for a change.

so get ready D.C., we're coming!

{p.s. remember when i fell in love with DC here? and you know i'm counting down the days till i get to have one of these again!}

it's the boo boo's birthday!

Friday, March 13, 2009

i can't believe those cute little blonde twiners in this photo
turn 18 years old today!
i can't believe they are leaving for college this fall!
i can't believe they are so grown up and mature and beautiful!
um. i feel old.

happy birthday rachel and rebekah!
i love you sisters.
