flat tire.

husband and i both had pretty rough days today.

and i guess our beetle didn't want to feel left out...

at the end of our day, she gave up 

and gave us a flat on the way home.

i got mad at her {and husband- after all, he DID drive up on the curb

which caused the flat} but i'm working on my anger 

and had fun with the camera while my love fixed the tire.

thanks, husband.

you're so handsome.

a headband for your wedding...

lately, i've made a few headbands from my shop

for a few beautiful brides and their big day.

i made this headband special for amy.

sailing in the dominican republic...

i think it was husbands favorite part of our trip.

since he grew up on the water in florida, he looooves sailing.

he kept making our sail boat go so fast on such big waves

i almost had a heart attack.

it is not for me.

i'm just thankful we didn't die

and my cameras didn't fall into the ocean...

remember when i visited the sweet tooth fairy bake shop

in provo utah a few months ago and fell in love with their key lime cupcake?

well, if you're in utah country tomorrow, it's your chance to go fall in love 

with their vaNIElla squared cupcake which was named in honor of nie nie.

{and i know all of you love nie as much as i do}

all proceeds from the sales tomorrow of the vaNIElla squared cupcakes 

will go to the nielsen family and the arizona burn center.

she surprises me every time.

for example, i have no idea why some of the photos she took

developed with this beautiful misty purple tint, but i love them anyway.

our new dc home: the kitchen

 i have lots of photos of our new place to share.

i'll start with the kitchen.

i attached before and after photos to give you a little idea 

of what i did. i knew the kitchen had a lot of potential 

so i was most excited to start with it when we moved in.

i used black chalk board paint behind the counters 

to tie in the black counter tops and make the ugly florescent lights 

under the cabinets less noticeable.

and i painted the walls a bright exotic red 

to go along with our red kitchen appliances. 

we love our old retro oven/stove!

and the white shutter doors open to an old retro washer/dryer!

i think my favorite thing about the kitchen is this polaroid 

we put up on the cabinet from new york. 

my second favorite thing are these two old license plates 

i found in utah while antiquing.

i searched and searched for a new york plate,

but florida and utah are appropriate 

since they are where husband and i are originally from.

and that, folks... is our new kitchen.

her new album came out yesterday... have you listened to it yet?

...because i haven't been able to turn it off.

and highly recommend it.

swimsuits

a lot of you commented or emailed asking about my swimwear...

the striped polka-dot suit is a tankini from down east basics

{although i don't see it on the website anymore...}

the black suit  is also from there

{killer prices at down east basics too... seriously}

and the yellow suit i bought last summer from macy's 

but can be found in red here

oh, and the beach hat is from urban outfitters found here

i am all about the modest swimwear that is still flattering and fashionable. 

if you ever come across any of it... do let me know!

hooray for summer!

he's so good to me...

this is a photo of me in the DC airport

at 4:30 AM last wednesday on my birthday...

i didn't have a clue what was going on

or where i was even going....

husband woke me up at 3:40 AM and surprised me

by saying "happy birthday! we need to leave here

in 20 minutes to go get your present..."

{luckily, he gave me a few clues as to what to pack...}

and 20 minutes later we were at the airport.

he didn't let me see the tickets or the destination info 

at the gate so it'd be a bigger surprise.

we landed in miami a few hours later

and i thought "oh my gosh, i love you!"

but then it got even better

when we caught a flight out of miami

and found ourselves in....

the dominican republic!

we stayed at this lovely resort on the
beach at bayahibe near la romana.

it was an extra special weekend trip
because we celebrated not only my 23rd birthday,

but also our 2 year wedding anniversary 

which took place last week as well!

i don't know how he planned all of this and kept it from me...

i was like a little kid in a candy shop all weekend...

gosh, i loooooove this man.

i brought along my favorite plastic cameras & my polaroid

so i'll post a few more photos of the island later this week

once the film is developed.
