that we monitor kingsley 24/7 when a fire is going
and the fireplace is blocked off when we aren't there to watch him.
about 50 times a day, we have to teach kingsley "no fire."
he is obsessed with sitting inside the protective screen
and watching the fire burn.

that is too cute! we have gas heaters with open flame and roxy LOVES to sit right in front of them! i guess it's a doggy thing :)
Dog's like the warmth. My dog loved to lay in the sunlight or he took naps on our heater. We put a footstool in front of the fireplace and he would lay on that. That's my suggestion.
Adorable! :) Maybe you could get a metal fire screen to put up in front of the fireplace--that way he won't be able to squeeze through? Just a thought!

He is so cute! I had a dog that was always cold even in the summer and was always trying to be near the fire and in sun light to be warm, perhaps it has something to do with that!

I used to have a Bull-mastiff who would walk up to the fire and stick his face in it as long as he could stand the heat and then turn around and sit his bottom on the fireplace hearth with his feet on the ground. and then stay their for hours! he loved to warm his bumm!

he'll learn pretty quickly if his little nose hairs get singed! but curiosity in a dog is always a good thing... not necessarily an easy thing for his dog-parents, but i think it definitely makes a dog more interesting :)

Lady - you are not bad puppy parents by any stretch. He is a puppy and will do silly things like this. We all know how much you are in love with him so I know that you two would never allow anything to happy to him :) He's so cute though. One of our dogs used to lay her head on top of a room heater. I was always worried she'd catch on fire. I'm not sure how she did it because the heater to the touch was soo hot. There was no way to stop her! She'd do it the minute our back was turned.

My Bailey does this too. We have a gas fireplace with a glass front, so she cant really get in the fireplace, but she will sit there for hours practically touching the glass. she feels really hot when we touch her, but it must feel good to her... she moves when shes warm enough!

Kingsley is adorable! However, a vet said not to let my dog watch the fire because it can ruin his eyesight. Dogs love the warmth of the fire, but by staring at the flames too long, it can hurt their eyes.
So, make sure Kingsley has a lot of away from the fire time, too!
