date night with friends.

Monday, November 29, 2010

we had a little double date last week with our friends julie and eli. first, we made a stop by krispy kreme because, well, when you see the "hot donuts now" light flashing in the window, you cannot just drive on by. at least we can't... then, after our donut fix, we went bowling.

we teamed up boys against girls and yes, the ladies totally won!
(thanks to julie. i have to be the worst bowler ever.)

the boys were sad because this means they now have to cook us dinner...
japanese curry, to be exact.

ah, can't wait for curry night!

{we might have taken full advantage of the mothers-to-be parking spot last May when we found out we were expecting. i know it was probably 5 months too early to take advantage of such a privilege, but we sort of didn't care.}

there are so many little things i love about where i am right now in my life that i kind of want to just pause everything and stay here a little while.

i love being pregnant. i've wanted this baby for so long that i'm trying hard to just savour all these little moments where i get the baby to myself before i share it with the world. even the moments that aren't so fun, like vomiting on the corner of east capitol and 6th because i can't get to a bathroom fast enough, or not sleeping for long stretches at night because there is a big tummy in my way... or worrying about the kind of mother i will be and all the mistakes i will most definitely be making... or even popping the button off my pants because they're officially too snug and having to walk around trader joe's with my pants falling off. even those moments, i want to remember. because they are still special. and they make the other wonderful pregnancy moments even more thrilling... like seeing baby wiggle around on the ultrasound screen, or those little kicks that i pretend are just for me... kind of like, "hey mom, i already love you!" while i wait in line at the grocery store or sit in traffic on the freeway. i want a big family, but it's possible this is my only pregnancy in life, so i'm trying extra hard to just be in the moment and savour it.

UPS delivered our crib last week and josh and i were like little kids on christmas morning setting that thing up together. it's a tiny crib that's going beside our bed for these next many months and since we set it up right before bed, it was the best thing to wake up and see the following morning. i wonder what it will feel like to wake up and see a tiny human inside that crib soon.

the other night, josh and i took kingsley on a late walk. the sun had already gone down and it was cold out. we were both bundled up in hats and big down jackets. and yet, we were both eating ice cream sandwiches while we circled the block. josh said "look at us!" and i laughed so hard. it's been so nice just being the two of us for these past few years... i've loved this little chapter of our life together and it's kind of bittersweet seeing it close. but it's so so so wonderful knowing that just around the corner is something we've dreamed and prayed and wished for since the beginning. next june, for the first time in a few years, i'll be wishing for something else when i blow out my birthday candles.

baby davis, we are so so so excited to meet you soon!

to get all their (kingsley's) energy out before bedtime.

i love it.

flowers in mid november. (and our giveaway winner announced!)

Friday, November 19, 2010

regardless of the cold coming in, i've been noticing
a lot of beautiful flowers around the hill these days.
while they are lovely and colorful and surviving quite nicely,
i'm ready for a big winter wonderland.

p.s. we went to the midnight showing of harry potter 7
last night with friends. i accidentally threw my popcorn
in the air during a surprise scary scene
and it landed in the lap of a guy sitting behind us.
it was that good!

...

and the winner of our giveaway is...
congrats kristen! please email me your shipping info!

a few photos from our weekend with the sisters.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

we made lots of s'mores beside the fire together, took a few walks around the hill, enjoyed lunch + milkshakes at ted's bulletin, a yummy bbq chicken dinner by josh + sisters, church (with the best primary program ever-- my little ones made me so proud), and lots of down time on the blow up mattress chatting and catching up on last weeks 30 rock episode.

diary of kingsley: my fireplace.

Monday, November 15, 2010

"hello friends!

you might recall how much i loved sitting inside the protective screen of the fireplace last winter to keep warm and watch the fire burn as a 7 lb. puppy. if you don't remember, it was documented here (thanks, mom!) well since then, i've gained 44 lbs, traveled extensively, learned a few tricks and chewed a few things. i've been so busy, i almost forgot what fireplaces were for!

but since it's gotten colder outside, mom and dad have been making a lot of cozy fires at our place. and i just want you to know, i am in dog heaven. i even dragged my doggy bed out of the kitchen and placed it right in front of the fireplace all by myself so i can maximize my comfort while staying warm and cozy.

ah, the little things... life is good, friends! life is good!

love, kingsley."

sisters in town.

my little twin sisters visited over the weekend and we had so much fun.
we aren't the best hosts when people come to town these days (i needed a lot of naps and breaks and places to sit down. also, we've turned into such homebodies.) but the sisters didn't seem to mind. which is why they are so great. i'll post more photos from our weekend together later.

happy monday!

diana.
