shophouse.

Friday, December 30, 2011

we tried out the new shophouse kitchen over at dupont circle the other week with friends. we hear it's the new asian spin-off from the people that brought us chipotle. the grilled steak was delicious but overall the meal was far too spicy for us (and we had the mildest sauce.) i suppose we are pretty wimpy though when it comes to spices so we aren't really the ones you should ask.

we did however enjoy watching eleanor sit on papa's shoulder while eating her bowl of brown rice. that child knows how to entertain.

it's not just you! it is really spicy. my husband and i both had trouble with it and i hard three guy next to me talking about how much they love spicy food but had trouble with shophouse. i did try the banh mi over the bowl the second time and the bread helped cut the spice a little.

eleanor is so fashion-forward, especially with those edgy bangs swept to the side. does refinery 29 have a baby version? i think they should contact her, if so. ;)

I love Shophouse and it's conveniently right around the corner from my house. I actually thought my green curry wasn't spicy enough but, hey, to each her own.

I'm sure you're told this a hundred times each day, but your daughter's eyes are just stunning! Beautiful family! <3

i think bringing a baby to dinner has it's advantages, and one of them is at least being able to get a cute show when the food isn't as good as hoped :)

I like that! I hope they'll open one in NYC soon. I love spicy food. Eleanor is such a cutie pie. Josh must have been a mess after that! :)

We need to double date one of these days. You guys do food right! And i'm still so impressed with how Eleanor handles restaurants. Evelyn is never patient enough to even wait for our food to come out! That's why our weekends are full of take-out and red box, which is dandy just the same :)

Hi Naomi!
I could be wrong, but isn't this you (and Josh's body with someone's head photoshopped on)? :

I saw this in Barnes and Noble today the photo looked so familiar to me, when I realized that they looked like the pictures I've seen on this blog!

Oops, sorry, I didn't realize that was a broken link. This one should work:

Kat is right, isn't that you?! What happened to Josh's head? Haha, interesting photoshop job...

My boyfriend and I love Chipotle! This post makes me a bit sad because I'm away from him now and you and Josh look so happy. But it also reminds me of what's important in life - friends and family and having a good time. :] I'll definitely have to eat here sometime soon.

i'm not wimpy about spicy food and my 2 visits to shophouse have been very spicy! with consensus from the friends i brought along. i wish they would fix that, because everything has so much flavor otherwise.

i am a wimp when it comes to spicy, too (except with sriracha, i will dump that stuff on anything.) I will have to see if there are any of those around here.

Hi Naomi, I am new to following your blog but, I MUST say, I am OB-sessed. It reads like a good book. Thank you so much for sharing. :) I am truly inspired. It's just me, my husband, and our American Bulldog, GT. I actually just started a blog myself. (I'm like a week in...) I was wondering 2 things... 1. My husband and I are thinking about taking a trip to D.C. here in the next few months, (neither of us have ever been), and I was wondering since you live there if you would mind giving us some "must do/must see/must EAT" suggestions. I would really appreciate it. We are from Georgia. Actually, pretty much in Florida. We are near Jacksonville, Florida, near Cumberland Island. And 2. (I am going waaaay back) but, on your April 2009 road trip you had on the most beautiful pair of black boots with maybe a tan buckle on the back... not quite sure. If you don't mind divulging that information to me. I would love to know. I think they are the must gorgeous black boots I've ever seen. Well, Happy New Year to you and your family. Hope to hear from you.
