a birthday burger.

Monday, January 31, 2011

we went out for burgers saturday night (yes, they still make me gag, but it was husband's birthday and i wasn't about to deny him a birthday burger on my behalf). we stopped by ray's hell burger in arlington because their burgers are pretty fantastic (or so i thought before i got pregnant). my favorite part of the place is the big world map with all the little push pins showing where people came from for a burger. i also love seeing my husband all animated over a good milkshake, burger and fries. that man makes me laugh, i love him.

happy birthday, husband!

Sunday, January 30, 2011

i love you, and am so happy we are together.

love, taza.

the bump that keeps on growing. the babe that won't come out. the mama-to-be that is so ready to be a mama. the crib in the back that is lonely.

we have been laying low the last few days celebrating josh's weekend birthday and getting ready to celebrate another little birthday here soon, too. it's been one tough week for me...but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we're really really close! part of me feels like baby needed these extra 2 weeks because my tummy has literally tripled in size this last week alone, so i'm glad he or she was able to stay cozy and grow and develop a bit more. the other part of me has still not learned a thing about patience and has had many meltdowns the last few days to prove it.

i wanted to stop in and say thank you to everyone who has shown such kind support and love the past few weeks. i've been a little quiet over here the last few days on the blog front because i'm just so antsy and annoyed most of the time but i'm trying hard to get excited again about baby (it doesn't take much) and can't wait to share the news soon with you!!! happy sunday! xoxo

p.s. giveaway winner announced below in the giveaway post!

we finally got our snowstorm.

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

after being teased with teeny tiny little snow dustings in d.c. the past few months, we're finally experiencing our first major winter storm of the season. it's beautiful outside... and it's making up for my terrible-no good-still no baby day. thanks for showing up, snow. i like you, lots.

"nope."

Friday, January 21, 2011

these are my three younger sisters with "pillow" baby bumps over christmas break. today i feel the way my sister in the red shirt looks in the second photo.

last night, after calling far too many italian restaurants around d.c., josh and i finally found the only place in the area that has eggplant parmesan on their menu (thank you, carmines.) we'd have cooked it ourselves, but i'm always a mess in the kitchen. plus, with a dish like eggplant parmesan, it'd probably have turned out extra disgusting. neither of us likes eggplant as it is, but we're determined to try all those "myths" that supposedly help a woman go into labor, so eggplant parmesan it was. (and, surprise surprise... still no labor.)

then we came home and watched i, robot. that is what happens when you both think the other person is updating your netflix queue... you get sent movies like i, robot.

in my best thoughts and dreams, i go into labor sometime in the next 7 minutes (i'll even take sometime in the next couple of days... otherwise this mama has to be induced next week and she doesn't really like that idea.) in the meantime, i'll just keep directing everyone here. (thanks fennofashion.) have a great weekend!

children's books.

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

last night on twitter, we talked about favorite children's books and i couldn't believe all the books mentioned that i had forgotten about! there are so many great ones. so, what's your favorite children's book? i'm making a little list... would love some suggestions. most of my favorites are pictured above... xo

a car seat, a car seat! now, show yourself baby!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

yesterday, we finally installed the car seat into the back of our car. we'd learned at our birthing class months earlier that it's a good idea to have that thing ready to go 5 weeks before your due date... but a combination of laziness and other things i can't remember exactly led to it sitting in a box just inside our front door until yesterday.

but it's in the car now (thanks, josh!), which i guess means everything is "officially ready" for this baby who is already driving his or her mama insane! there is only so much waiting i can do, baby. i've already eaten all of josh's hospital treats out of our hospital bag and i feel like i can't go buy more because i'll just eat them before we even get there!

anyway, if you're pregnant and wanting some advice, count your pregnancy all the way to 42 weeks from the beginning... you will just drive yourself nutty if you count it to 40 and nothing happens. (then, if your baby does come at 40 weeks --lucky you!--, it will be a blessed surprise!) considering that i was 2 weeks late coming into this world, i should have known better than to get my hopes up for an on-time baby.

rinah.

Monday, January 17, 2011

our good friends, andrew and carissa (the genius' behind this video we made) are in the process of doing something beyond wonderful; they are working to adopt a sweet little girl named rinah from uganda. obviously, there is much to this story, which you can read more about here and learn about in this video below...

we are so inspired by andrew and carissa's selflessness and charity and wish them luck!

we still don't have that baby over here.

...and while i'm trying to be patient, it's killing me. i'm realizing i'm not a very patient person. i'm a moody, still-pregnant lady who wants to hold her baby. so cross your fingers we get to meet baby this week. ok? thanks.

and in other news, here is our shopmamie giveaway winner from last week! congrats to ashley below:
ashley, please email me (naomi.megan@gmail.com) with your contact info. have a lovely monday everyone!

fries + hot fudge sundaes.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

this is us, just hanging out, waiting for baby.

johnny rockets is one of josh's favorite places (he likes their fries.)
and of course, i'll go anywhere that has ice cream sundaes
with extra hot fudge on their menu... love!

my pregnancy lifesavers.

i know i said i love being pregnant and want to enjoy this pregnancy (and not complain about it), but being 40 weeks pregnant with no sign of baby yet is really killing my body this week. it's definitely gotten uncomfortable.

i'm not a girl who has many beauty products in her bathroom (i mean, i steal josh's old spice deodorant every morning), but the 4 things above have really helped my body throughout this pregnancy and have especially made the last few weeks more comfortable so i thought i'd share...

1. l'occitane's certified organic pure shea butter. i know some people think stretch marks are inevitable during pregnancy and there isn't a point in trying to prevent them, but i've been using this shea butter on my tummy since i found out i was expecting last summer and so far, not one single mark! also, since my body has gotten stretch marks before (thank you, dear thighs) i know it's not just "my genes" here, so i'm crediting the shea butter.

2. sabon's dead sea salt scrub. this is the one product i've splurged on over the past few years and always keep stocked in my bathroom. it saved my body each week while i was dancing all day in NYC and it's proving to be a lifesaver again with this pregnancy. especially the last few weeks where sleep at 3am is nonexistent. a warm shower and exfoliating scrub seem to help calm me down before bed (and the patchouli lavender vanilla scent helps put me to sleep afterwards, too.)

3. massaging tools. while i've always held a lot of tension in my back, this third trimester has given me extra knots (and ironically, only on my left side). having josh work on my back each night has helped relieve a lot of the back pain i've been experiencing (thank you, josh.)

4. burt's bees nourishing body oil. and using a little body oil with #3 helps considerably since i usually always cry when someone massages my back (yep, my sorry little back knots are that bad.)

i hope this list might help someone else who wants to make the last stretch of pregnancy a little more comfortable. did you find any particular product helpful in the last stretch of your pregnancy? (i'm all ears.)

here's to hoping my baby will just come already so i can cuddle him or her and forget about the back pain!

baby shower.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

my sweet friends julie and hannah (aren't they so cute?!) threw baby davis a little party last week. of course these girls went above and beyond and everything was darling. this baby is already so spoiled. :)

because josh and i are keeping baby stuff to a minimum (i swear you don't need half the "stuff" they say you do...) and also because we haven't found out the sex, we did a book theme to start building our little library of children books to read to our sweet little one.

it was nice to have a bunch of wonderful friends around for a morning and talk about all things baby! thanks to all who came! and thank you julie and hannah for your awesomeness... baby and i felt so special!

the last of the little dates (before baby, that is).

Monday, January 10, 2011

on saturday night, we put on our silly eskimo winter hats (well, we put on some of josh's silly eskimo winter hats-- i like stealing his wardrobe), and went on a little date to pitango. husband ordered gelato and i ordered a hot chocolate, then we shared.

a costco run turns into a cheap dinner date.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

$3.27.
that's how much dinner cost us last night
for 2 hot dogs & 2 20 oz. sodas (+ 2 free refills) at costco.

sometimes i can't believe how much i love that place.
so much so, i'm willing to buy things in stock for the rockstar deal
even if it means having to creatively store 30 rolls of toilet paper
all over my teeny tiny bedroom. seriously.

to transport/ store our costco goodies.
we may only have one closet,
but we've got a car trunk that acts like a second!
i think this means we're moving up in the world...
slowly, but surely! :)
