reason #038 why i love summer.

seeing baby girl reach out and try to eat a watermelon?

pretty cute, summer. pretty darn cute.

cancels out the sticky humid weather, shattered iphone screen,

accidentally locked ourselves out of the house with an overheated bulldog,

and not getting much done on our to-do list week that we've been having.

it really does just keep getting better and better. you know?

crepe night with one of our favorite little families.

on sunday we drove up to maryland to visit one of our favorite little families and enjoy some sunday night crepes with them. kids don't come cuter than these little barefoot friends. and i don't think eleanor has ever been so popular or had so many little hands wanting to hold and take care of her (my arms were thankful.)

as for kingsley, he was on cloud nine the entire visit. i know this because upon arrival home, somebody snored loudly for 8 or 9 hours straight. kids sure know how to make a dog feel old and out of shape. ;) and he ate up every minute of it.

we're going on a bear hunt...(or rather, to the zoo!)

on saturday we took eleanor to the national zoo to see the animals. i don't think she really cared for much besides trying to eat my snow cone, but josh and i really enjoyed ourselves. the weather was beautiful, all the animals were out and about and the gorillas put on quite the show for us!

this tiger in the last photo made josh and i laugh so hard. he reminded us of kingsley when he's scratching on the front door because he needs to go potty or wants to play outside. this tiger would not stop scratching at the door and looking through the window. i think he wanted dinner. and a friend.

*ps. anybody else obsessed with the children's book, we're going on a bear hunt? i think i could read it every day to E, imitating how my own mother read it to me (she'd chant the words in the most animated voice ever) and never grow tired. i've probably already read it one hundred times since february. i love it so.

thursday.

this day was so busy.

but it feels great to cross things off your to-do list.

and reach milestones with your baby

(we're sitting up all on our own now!)

and unpacking that last box felt pretty great, too.

we ended the day catching up with our new favorite show,

the voice (go dia!), on hulu in bed while eating ice cream.

i would like to end every evening this way. ;)

all day i kept dreaming about taking a nap.

i'd look at the floor or corner or back seat of the car

and think, "i could fall asleep right there in 2 seconds..."

but naps? who gets to take naps around here?

kingsley does. and eleanor (when she's not fighting it.)

so bed looks mighty fine right now...

the weekend proved to be exciting, terrifying, good, bad, draining and magical, all in one. is that even possible? i think so. it was so up and down. we enjoyed celebrating my birthday, our 4 year wedding anniversary and father's day, but there were a lot of moments in there that weren't so hot. and i'm just really glad the weekend is behind us.

here are a few photos of the better moments of our weekend according to my iphone, and yes... that's our car all wrecked midway down (although not a better moment of the weekend, but fortunately no one was hurt, so i guess it counts as a good thing? although our car didn't make it out so well...) what is it about our car luck around this time of year? hopefully we've paid our dues and this won't be a reoccurring thing come june 2012.

happy 1st father's day!

i have this teeny tiny suspicion that eleanor's first word will be "dadda". she'll probably share her first secret with him, too. and i wonder if at some point she'll begin to ignore me when her daddy comes home like kingsley does (he is so obsessed with josh it's like he forgets who gives him the *extra* treats around here. ugh.) i have this teeny tiny suspicion she'll be a daddy's girl. i already see it beginning...slowly, but surely, i'll be the outsider in this family. and i guess that's ok. because they're pretty cute together. and you know, i'm all about cute things. ;)

happy father's day to all the wonderful dads out there, to my own father and father-in-law who we love and admire so much, and a very happy 1st official father's day to my love (and 4 year wedding anniversary today, too!) i like seeing you as a dad, josh. it's super sexy. i love you.
