what's that on your face, baby girl?

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

if eleanor could have her way, her preferred meal 3x a day, plus snacks in-between, plus all night long, plus whenever it's inconvenient for mama in public, is breast milk. but we've come so far the past few months (especially this last month) with our progress on eating solids consistently! it usually requires mama and papa clapping in unison after every bite she makes, and sometimes distracting her a little bit to get more bites into her mouth, but folks... it's happening!

and what's that? you want to see an obnoxious amount of photos of my baby eating her dinner of blackberries and pasta? well you are in luck, my friend! because i have an obnoxious amount of photos of my baby eating her dinner of blackberries and pasta right here:

and that's all! bye bye!

So by obnoxious you mean adorable right?! :) When you were describing Eleanor's eating habits (or sometimes, lack there of) it completely reminded me of my daughter Ingrid when she was that age (oh yeah, and now too!). Lots of distraction, and LOTS of mom & dad clapping and acting like she won a gold medal because she ate a bite. :) Glad to know we're not alone in that!

Are you going to plan on tandem nursing when your next little one comes around? I considered it, but my little one was pretty over the breast at 12 months or so. Sounds like Eleanor is still going strong though! That's great!

We had the exact same issue and it sometimes feels like it took forever for the Babby to take to "real" food. But she got there, and self weaned, and is still not a great eater but I don't like to force the issue since if she's full, she's full.

Sounds so much like my daughter, right down to how she hated solids but LOVED those puff snacks. In fact around 11 months she decided to forgo ALL solids and go back to nursing like a newborn. That lasted a few weeks. Anyway now she's 13.5 months and since she turned a year old has gradually wanted more and more solid meals, and eats (and loves!) plenty of solid food now. She still loves to nurse though, when she wakes up and at snack time and at bedtime and alllll night and... yeah, it's exhausting sometimes. But I try to remember in the grand scheme of things, it's such a short period, and one day I'll miss our nursing time.

This post just made my day. Not only because E is adorable, but because I understand that I am not alone in trying to live a "normal" life while breastfeeding an infant who wants to eat all night long, and all the time. Thank you for putting it out there, Naomi.

Kari said...

My little babe (who will be 8 months at the end if this month!) would love to nurse allllll night long as well. I feel so much pressure to have him sleeping through the night right now, that I thought surely I must be doing something wrong! It's do validating to hear that there are other babies out there who wake up to eat as well.

Oh, and I love how you said that you and your husband have to clap and sing every time she eats. I didn't realize how much of a show we put on until my mother-in-law pointed out that I was beep-boxing while my husband juggled clementines just to get our little guy to eat 4oz of sweet peas!

:)

By the way, all the pictures are darling!

ps best wishes with your new baby-babe coming!!

She is so adorable, those pictures and her expressions. I hate to use this word but she is just so perfect! Your second little one is going to be so blessed to have you guys as a family(:

I Also have a question for you! I'm thinking of auditioning for a couple of dance schools in NYC, Juilliard being one of them. And i'm just so nervous and excited. I love how you are so passionate about dance, that's actually how I stumbled onto your blog. I was wondering if you could do a blog piece on what made you want to pursue dance and what made you want to go to Juilliard. I'm so obsessed with dance, and yours is so beautiful and unique! Sorry, this is such a random request but i don't know ANYONE who has gone on to auditioning for dance academies, besides my dance instructor who just keeps telling me to not be nervous!
Thanks so much for even reading this! - Lizzy
